I did this a few months ago when I was frustrated with the lack of sitters to paint. I was not painting at all, so I decided to paint for the sake of painting. Two things resulted from it. This painting, and an end to an artistic drought. Sometimes you have to just keep swimming. Thanks Dorie.

Hey Aaron,

I love this, and that's coming from a guy who takes the ocean seriously. I immediately thought of Gustave Courbet's "The Wave" when I saw it.(http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/06/95806-004-05C803FF.jpg?

His painting is considerably more menacing, but it just goes to show the myriad possibilities when depicting such a dynamic and diverse subject. I love how it came to you in a moment of artistic vacancy. I feel that's exactly the time to absorb the subtle emotional complexity of the sea. Definitely, keep swimming.
